Ziaul Hasan

Ziaul Hasan, the Chairman of BIEI, formerly served as a Senior Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh from the Ministry of Science and Technology simultaneously functioning as Ex-Officio Chairman of the sole Nuclear Power Plant Company of Bangladesh monitoring and guiding the implementation of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Project (RNPP). He also chaired a number of its Governing body meetings.  Prior to that he served as Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change during functioning also as the National Focal Point of the UN Framework Convention of Climate Change (UNFCCC) and organizational Focal Point of Global Environmental Facility (GEF). Earlier, he worked as Chairman of Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARSO) and represented the Organization in various international fora. He served also in Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA)National Sports Council, RAJUK (Capital city Development Authority) after services in field administration in different districts of Bangladesh. He joined Bangladesh Civil Service in 1989 and retired in 2023 having a civil service career of 34 years.

Ziaul Hasan is an accomplished civil servant with good track record of efficiency and leadership in the domain of public administration for which he had foundation of a number of training courses and programmes at home and abroad equipping him for leadership in the service. Notable is his participation in the National Defence College (NDC) giving him perspective of national security, strategic leadership and inter agency coordination. He also attended a specialized course on negotiation strategies at Harvard Kennedy school, USA, and attended professional development programme at Duke University, USA on leadership and governance.

Ziaul Hasan has a strong academic foundation of combining Engineering and Development studies. He had B.SC Engineering (Civil) degree from the Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology (BUET) and Master’s degree in Governance and Development from BRAC University. He has wide experience in supervising and monitoring management of numerous education institutions. As nominated by the Government, he worked as President of the Governing Body of Numerous Schools, Colleges, Educational Institutions for a prolonged period and thereby acquired enormous knowledge pertaining to academic development and discipline. BIEI and its international collaboration are of particular interest of him.
